Reading the Sales Summary report

What each line in the Sales Summary report actually counts.

By the end of this article, you know what every figure on the Sales Summary means.

Open it

Open Settings and click the Reports card. Sales Summary is the tab selected by default.

What each line means

  • Transactions: the number of completed sales in the date range. Voided sales are not counted here.
  • Gross sales: the sum of every sale’s subtotal, before discounts, before tax.
  • Discounts: the total taken off by discount rules across those sales.
  • Tax collected: the total tax charged.
  • Net total: what customers actually paid, subtotal minus discounts, plus or minus any cash-discount/surcharge adjustment, plus tax. This is the figure the tender breakdown below it should add up to.
  • Average sale: net total divided by the number of transactions.
  • Voided: shown only when at least one sale in the range was voided, with its own count and total, kept separate from everything above rather than folded into it.

If the store runs a cash-discount or card-surcharge program, a Cash discount / surcharge (net) line also appears between Discounts and Tax collected, showing the net effect of that adjustment across the range.

Tender breakdown

Below the totals, a table breaks completed sales down by Cash, Card and Store credit, with a count and amount for each. These figures come only from completed sales, the same as the totals above.
