Looking up a customer at checkout

Attach a regular customer to a sale by searching for them at the register.

By the end of this article, a sale has a customer record attached to it.

Search for the customer

Above the cart, the Customer field is where you attach a regular to the current sale. Type part of their name, phone number or email, and matching customers appear in a dropdown as you type. Select one to attach them.

If the field is left blank, the sale rings up as a walk-in with no customer attached.

What attaching a customer enables

  • The customer’s name is recorded on the transaction and shows up in its Sales History detail.
  • Store Credit becomes available as a tender if they have a balance. See Taking a payment with store credit.
  • Holding a ticket keeps the attached customer with it, so recalling the ticket later brings the customer back too.

Changing or clearing the customer

Once a customer is attached, their name and store-credit balance show above the cart with a Change button. Click it to search for a different customer or clear the selection back to walk-in.
