Entering a custom price for an item not in inventory

Ring up a one-off item or special order that is not in the product catalog.

By the end of this article, you have added a custom-priced line to a sale without creating a product for it.

When to use this

Use a custom price for something that will not be sold again, or that is not worth adding to the catalog: a special order, a repair, a one-off item, or a price a customer negotiated on the spot.

Add it to the cart

  1. On the register screen, click + Custom Price above the product grid.
  2. Enter an Item name, such as “Special Order”.
  3. Enter a Price.
  4. Click Add to cart.

The line appears in the cart marked (custom) next to its name, and can have its quantity adjusted or be removed the same as any other line.

How it is recorded

A custom line has no product behind it, so it never touches an existing product’s own sales figures. It still counts toward the transaction’s total, tax and Sales Summary numbers the same as a catalog item would, and shows up in Sales by Item under the name you typed, and in Sales by Category under a Custom items row.
