Taking a payment with store credit
Use a customer's store-credit balance as the tender for a sale.
By the end of this article, you have charged a sale against a customer’s store-credit balance instead of cash or card.
Attach the customer first
Store Credit only becomes available as a tender once a customer is attached to the sale. Search for them by name, phone or email in the Customer field above the cart before clicking Charge. A walk-in sale with no customer attached cannot use store credit; the Store Credit button in the payment window stays disabled with a tooltip explaining why.
Charge it
- With a customer attached, click Charge.
- Select Store Credit in the payment window.
- The window shows the customer’s available balance and confirms the amount that will be charged.
- Click Charge to complete the sale.
The amount is deducted from the customer’s store-credit balance, and the sale’s tender is recorded as store credit, the same as it would be for cash or card.
Adding credit to a balance
A customer needs credit on their account before it can be spent this way. See Adding store credit to a customer balance.
