Opening a drawer session with a starting float
Start a shift by counting the cash already in the drawer before any sales happen.
By the end of this article, a drawer session is open and the register is ready to take sales.
Why this comes first
A sale cannot be charged without an open drawer session. Opening one records the starting float, the cash already in the drawer, so the end-of-shift count has something accurate to reconcile against.
Open the drawer
- Open Settings and click the Cash Drawer card.
- Count the cash already in the drawer and enter it as the Opening amount.
- Click Open drawer.
The screen now shows who opened the session, when, and a running summary: opening float, cash sales, paid in, paid out and the expected amount currently in the drawer.
One session at a time
Once a session is open, the Cash Drawer screen shows that session’s summary and the pay-in/pay-out and close-out tools instead of the opening form, until it is closed.
